The End is Near

The end of private health insurance that is.
Many critics of the new government led public health insurance plan, believe it is the kiss of death for private health insurance companies.

The Wall Street Journal explains in detail just why this is so.

So, what do you think. Can private insurance companies compete in a "free market" with public (government run) programs?

  1. I tend to agree with the article's premise that it would be difficult to compete with governmentally controlled health insurance. It is clear from the article that insurance companies are worried about going out of business. While I have empathy for those in the health insurance industry, I'm not sure there will be an overwhelming sympathy from much of the public. For too many years, private insurance companies have excluded a large population in this country. Given the current situation, I think it would be a wise investment for the companies to change their policies with a public campaign showing that they care about families.

  2. Yeah, I don't think that private health care can compete against government health insurance. The only way I see them actually being able to compete is if the gov run insurance only covers basics. Then, they may be able to target more wealthy audiences who are concerned about the lack of quality care.
